What is a Chemical Reaction?
A chemical reaction is a chemical change that forms new substances.
The atoms and molecules of reacting substances (reactants) interact chemically to rearrange and form new substances (products).
A reaction is represented by a chemical equation where chemical symbols of reactants are on the left and those of products are on the right.
The total number of atoms of each element on both sides are same.
Why do Chemical Reactions Need to be Balanced?
All chemical reactions follow the law of conservation of mass which states that in a closed system mass is neither created nor destroyed.
Hence the number of the atoms of each element on the reactants side is equal to that on the products side.
